We’re thrilled to celebrate our lead designer, Caroline Sussman, for her feature in DesignNY Magazine’s "Off the Beaten Path" highlighting her exceptional work in crafting a one-of-a-kind Skaneateles home.
Caroline’s thoughtful approach brought warmth, personality, and a fresh take on cabin-inspired design to this unique home. Reflecting on her process, Caroline explains, “The house is warm, inviting, and super, super cozy. It appeared incredibly natural and simultaneously, wisely curated.”
Bringing the Homeowner’s Vision to Life
Caroline worked closely with homeowner Mattie Tracy, blending her vibrant personality with sophisticated, rural cabin charm. Her design philosophy focused on enhancing the home’s rustic elegance with selections that honored the homeowner’s lifestyle and love for the outdoors.
Key Design Highlights by Caroline Sussman:
-
Living Room Transformation:
Caroline replaced two oversized leather sofas with a sofa upholstered in rich green flannel, evoking the comfort of a luxurious daybed. “It’s a cabin feel in a completely new way. You don’t need antlers,” Caroline notes. -
Custom Barrel Chairs:
Two barrel chairs with pale green patterned fabric, toast-colored leather, and dark wood anchored the space while echoing the home’s timber and iron accents. -
Cohesive Details:
Caroline’s attention to detail extended to custom-designed pillows and a window seat, incorporating subtle nods to the home’s garden and outdoor lifestyle. “The rug’s colors are reminders of mulch and bark and moss and sticks and twigs. Mattie’s love of the outdoor garden and lifestyle are designed into this room,” Caroline shares.
Caroline’s work beautifully highlights her ability to balance her clients’ unique personalities with timeless design principles.
